About this deal

The narrators are largely unlikeable and mostly unreliable. They all have secrets to hide, some darker than others, and some interconnected. A mystery-thriller set in a luxurious apartment complex housing sinister secrets and characters, it’s clear to see why so many consider one of the best books like The Paris Apartment. The Lost Village – Camilla Sten Not wanting to consult with the police, Jess turns to the other residents, hoping to find out when or where Ben was last seen, and by whom. Option 2: Tighten the Events -- If Bowen felt the need to keep both narrative threads, I would have advised her to shorten the time span she was covering in both threads. There is much in her plots that was work that she could have kept in her preparation file folders, work that an author needs to do but that readers don't need to read. Had Bowen dropped us right into the middle of the Paris Ritz and the mission, she could have deepened the tension and provided much more detail. The same goes for her parallel tale in today's France, dropping the poor romance and focusing, instead, on the much more compelling mystery she'd concocted for her contemporary characters. Allie Reynolds’ Shiver follows a group of professional snowboarders who travel to the French Alps for a summer of high-pressured events and competitions. The nature of the athletes leads to a hyper-competitive environment where each of them attempts to outdo the other, with potentially deadly consequences.

He stops speaking. Hesitates, listens. A noise. The sound of footsteps out on the landing . . . approaching the apartment door. The Blair Witch Project meets Midsommar in Camilla Sten’s disturbing 2019 thriller book The Lost Village. The Paris Apartment is the latest release from mystery-thriller author Lucy Foley. I’d previously read her book The Guest List which was imperfect, but promising enough that I’d been looking forward to her next release.

Overall, this is another winner from the talented Lucy Foley. It’s very easy to read as it flows well and is highly entertaining! I really like the cover too! Either the book company or Kelly Bowen's editor (or maybe both) did her a great disservice in sending The Paris Apartment to press in its current form. It could have been so much more.

The author's note at the end explains what was real and what she invented for the WWII part of the novel, complete with a bibliography. This history nerd loved that part. I don't quite understand the hype around this author. This is my second Lucy Foley novel and I tried very hard to stay with the story. Feeling a bit like a darker take on Only Murders in the Building, The Paris Apartment revolves around the residents of number 12, rue des Amants, shifting between the perspectives of several different characters as Jess tries to get a handle on what’s happening and who her brother was to all these people. Ben’s neighbors run the gamut from rude and unhelpful, to downright suspicious and even occasionally sinister, and most of them aren’t exactly likable figures, but their stories eventually dovetail in increasingly compelling and surprising ways.Ben’s half-sister Jess needed to flee London in a hurry, and with nowhere else to turn-she pleaded with her half brother to let her come and stay for awhile. He reluctantly agrees but when she arrives, he isn’t home and he isn’t answering her texts. I loved the riveting mystery about missing step brother Ben who vanished into thin air and the last place he’s seen his apartment.
