Description

A large but cohesive set with a number of fun interactive features that add to the LEGO Super Mario game.

ORIGINAL STORY 9/3/22: Tomorrow, 10th March, sees the return of Nintendo's officially recognised annual Mario Day (Mar10, if it helps) and, among the usual festivities, it looks like Lego is preparing to unveil a brand-new set in its Lego Mario range, this one themed around Princess Peach. Bowser has, that's what! He can be placed in front of the doors, his little tail resting on the chain (there's a reason for this), and glaring menacingly at Peach as she enters the room. Scanning the tile in front of Bowser starts playing the boss music from the game. UPDATE 10/3/22: Yesterday's leaked Lego Peach electronic toy and the Princess Peach's Castle set have now been officially unveiled by Lego and given a 1st August release date. Princess Peach's Castle, meanwhile, includes Toadette and Ludwig, plus a throne room room where you can reveal Bowser. (Still, it's a shame this wasn't a full minifigure-scale set.) Finally, Peach can claim her rightful place on the throne of Mushroom Castle, to rule over the Mushroom Kingdom as she was born to do! A tile in the base of the throne plays victorious music, and yields some final coins. It doesn't end the game, however. You still need to scan the end tile by Bowser's flag.

Update (10/3): LEGO have officially announced and revealed the entire lineup of Summer 2022 LEGO Super Mario sets! The action begins with the Adventures with Mario or Luigi Starter Course sets, featuring the highly interactive LEGO® Luigi or Mario figure. LEGO® Mario reacts in a variety of ways as he meets enemies and collects coins. LEGO® and Nintendo have teamed up to create an all-new LEGO® Super Mario. Kids can now bring their favourite characters into the real world with collectable LEGO® Super Mario toys! As always, the sets command a high price both due to their tie-in with the app and Nintendo's brand, but if you're already all-in on the game then Peach's castle brings more of the fun you're used to and a boss battle to boot. Compared to last year's 71391 Bowser's Airship, which is only a couple of hundred pieces smaller, it feels like it adds significantly more value to the way the courses are designed for the app-based game. There's a large number of tiles to scan, obstacles to overcome, and interactivity.

Whilst we will do everything we can to meet the delivery times above, there may be factors outside of our control and we cannot guarantee delivery within this time frame. However, Peach's castle actually HAS been taken over and redecorated with a purple color scheme in the games twice (in Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time & Bowser's Inside Story) though not by Bowser. This could be a small nod by the designer to either of those occasions, but with Bowser as the villain because No release dates have been announced yet, but this is super exciting! There’s likely to be a Princess Peach Starter set, in the same vein as the Luigi Starter Course or the LEGO Mario Starter Course to get Princess Peach, with more expansion sets.Let kids add an iconic location to their LEGO Super Mario universe with the Peach’s Castle Expansion Set (71408). With this Super Mario construction toy, there is so much for players to explore and many ways to earn digital coins with their interactive LEGO Mario, LEGO Luigi or LEGO Peach figures (not included).

I particularly like the printed stained-glass window that sits above the throne room at the top of the main castle tower. Other sets announced today include: a LEGO Super Mario Yoshi’s Gift House Expansion Set, which offers fans a way to say hello to Yoshi, go for a spin on the Treat Carousel and eat yummy fruits to trigger happy reactions and earn coins. Also revealed today and available from August 1st are the LEGO Super Mario Fuzzy Flippers Expansion Set, LEGO Super Mario Cat Peach Suit and Frozen Tower Expansion Set, LEGO Super Mario Goomba’s Shoe Expansion Set and the LEGO Super Mario Big Spike’s Cloudtop Challenge Expansion Set. As pictured in Lego's leak, the castle itself comes complete with all the usual turrets, drawbridges, and wildly egotistical stained glass windows you'd expect from Peach. Additionally, Lego's premature reveal also unveiled a number of new characters inspired by New Super Mario Bros. Wii: Ludwig Von Koopa, Spike, a Boomerang Bro, and a yellow Toad. Either side of the doors, a short wall section is attached, incorporating a small round tower. The base of the tower tapers to the ground by cleverly using an existing cone part, new here in white, attached upside down. The roof of the tower is also a new part, and looks fantastic. Hopefully we'll see this make an appearance elsewhere in colours other than red. It's topped with a brand new 1x2 jumper plate, rounded to match the curve of the top of the roof (half of a 2x2 circle). The "Mario and Luigi" RPGs were made under license by another studio which went bankrupt, Nintendo didn't ever fully own the series, and it's unknown who has the rights now. There aren’t any details yet, but more LEGO Super Mario Expansion sets are coming, which includes a new LEGO Princess Peach Playable character, joining LEGO Luigi and Mario. Clearly the flagship set for the theme this year, 71408 Princess Peach's Castle is an impressively large set when laid out in its entirety ready to play. Although composed of a number of smaller disparate builds, like the majority of the Mario expansion sets, they're all tied together well into one cohesive castle. The set was provided for review by LEGO. All opinions expressed are those of the author. Characters Princess Peach's castle itself consists of a few parts: the main doors, flanked by a pair of walls containing small towers, and the castle proper with the throne room and the main tower. Inside the castle there are a handful of smaller builds. A 4x4 tile decorated with the sun pattern sits just behind the doors, once again accurate to the one seen in Super Mario 64 when Mario first enters the Mushroom Castle. A small round table holds some fruit (including one Peach can scan), and there's a suspiciously large cake.

LEGO Peach brings her recognizable voice and sound effects to the LEGO Super Mario Universe. All three interactive figures will now be available in separate Starter Courses – or entry points into the world of LEGO Super Mario. With the Adventures with Peach Starter Course, fans can earn digital coins and discover various reactions by helping the princess ride the swing set and open gifts, while defeating enemies like Lemmy and a Lava Bubble, or befriending a Yellow Toad. The interactive LEGO Peach, LEGO Mario and LEGO Luigi figures are able to connect with one another via Bluetooth (two at a time), where players can greet each other, celebrate, and team up to defeat enemies - earning bonus digital coins by working together. Dual-player action earns more coins, making it even more fun to play together with others. With the August release, the interactive figures will also be able to trigger positive reactions by eating fruits found across the new sets or gifting fruits to other characters - that’s sure to add even more fun to the adventures in the LEGO Super Mario universe. Billund, March 10 2022: The LEGO Group announced that LEGO® Peach™ will be entering the universe of LEGO® Super Mario™, a product line developed together with Nintendo. LEGO Peach joins LEGO® Mario™ and LEGO® Luigi™ for fans to continue to build out their very own LEGO Super Mario adventures. Players will now be able to power up their adventure with even more fun options with the iconic princess when the LEGO Super Mario Adventures with Peach Starter Course becomes available from August 1st 2022. Externally, the two wall sections are identical mirror images of each other. Internally, however, they differ. The right-hand section is the most interactive, featuring a large painting hanging on the wall! Long-time fans of Super Mario will recognise this as the first warp painting in Super Mario 64, through which Mario can travel to access Bob-omb Battlefield, one of the mini worlds within the game.Stamping on the front half of the bridge flattens it out, revealing the barcode tile used to interact with Toadette. It's the standard "friend" tile, where you can say hello, gather a few coins, drop off a gift, etc.
