About this deal

Kodak ColorPlus is also one of those standard color films that can be developed anywhere, from your local CVS to pro labs, or on your backpacking trip thousands of miles away from home with a self-developing kit. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too.

This ease-of-development is possible because it’s an industry-standard C41 film as opposed to the more specialized slide or black-and-white film. Better color fidelity than Gold 200 – again, when C41 processed – which always turns out garishly yellow to my eyes. The guys that run it are knowledgeable and passionate about film photography and always take the time to give you advice and send examples of photos taken on a particular camera. It was originally intended for everyday photos and for amateur photographers, but experienced photographers can easily make standout shots with the same humble roll of Kodak ColorPlus. ISO 200 speed film, which offers really fine grain and natural looking results under mixed daylight conditions. Fortunately the photography business has survived under the Kodak Alaris name - based in Hertfordshire, England - and they have delighted the analogue industry by pledging continued support for film production and the promise of bringing back old favourite emulsions. Editing the images and compiling them into a zine is what reminded me why I love Colorplus 200, and prompted me to make this review as well as the YouTube video linked at the bottom of this article. Its not a problem as I will just have to take more snaps before I can get them developed as don't want to waste the film.

ColorPlus has a long history of changing names throughout the decades, but always maintaining its cheaper and mass public appeal. Similarly to Fuji the advent of digital photography at the turn of the century caused significant financial problems. In our never-ending quest to bring new shooters into the world of film photography, we’re creating a series of fast and simple film reviews that can be read in about two minutes. Content contributor – become a part of the world’s biggest film and alternative photography community blog. You can expect a good all-round performance from this film; with noticeable grain, warm tones, a slightly muted look to some colours such as the blues (especially in overcast conditions) and a generally "vintage" look. You'll notice that even though film packaging is labelled as "Colorplus" (a pretty lazy name, I must say) the canisters inside are labelled "Kodacolor" with a branding scheme that looks like it's out of the 80's. You can also throw a flash on - ColorPlus won't give particularly nuanced results with the harsh light of a flash, but it'll capture the moment!

Metering at 100 ISO for example will result in a smoother look to the grain and increased density in the negative (which is useful for scanning). The latest packaging of ColorPlus, with its simple yellow and red packaging faithful to Kodak’s brand image, immediately brings to mind punchy contrast and vivid tones. Kodak ColorPlus 200 is a budget colour film that performs admirably in a wide range of settings, consistently delivers a wonderful vintage colour aesthetic, and really shines in sunlight!

In April 1880, Eastman leased the third floor of a building on State Street in Rochester, and began to manufacture dry plates for sale. From past experience, I must say that the best results from colour negative emulsions usually come from negatives exposed on the generous side. In fact I try not to oversharpen film as a rule, especially using Clarity which can really emphasise grain.

When it comes to cloudy days, I find that Colorplus 200 gives images that look like they were made in such conditions. The major benefit of an extended retirement is that I can spend most of my time nowadays with photography and writing about it. There is still a depth and some saturation to the blues, but they can drop in luminance, as you might notice in the images below. Despite being only ISO200 I did also use it for some indoor shots with artificial light which it handled well (this might also be in part thanks to the Silbersalz processing though): Leica M6 | MS-Optics 35mm 1.
